This morning we made our first sighting of the Galapagos Islands.
These islands were discovered 300 years ago in 1535 by the Bishop of Panama, and we are here for 5 weeks to draw a more detailed map than the one we have.
I have been reading the "Principles of Geology" since we departed from mainland South America while out at sea, and I am looking forward to seeing these Volcanic Islands.
I dont expect to see much wildlife or nature though.The environment is a harsh one, with little rains and dry soils.
